Contractors and tree harvesters that perform various construction services in the City of Harlem, Georgia, may be required by the local government to obtain a surety bond before any work may begin.
Should the licensee or permit holder violate local regulations or the terms and conditions of their contract, the applicable bond on file with the Planning and Zoning Department may be used as compensation for any financial losses incurred by the City or a damaged resident.

Contractor Registration Bond - This surety bond is required of the following contractor fields (bond limits are included):
Specialty Contractor Registration Bond - This bond is required of the following contractor fields (bond limits are included):
The Contractor Registration Bond and the Specialty Contractor Registration Bond must be obtained by the contractor in question when applying for their annual registration with the Planning and Zoning Department. The contractor is responsible for upholding license obligations and following local construction regulations. Should the licensee commit a violation such as causing damages and failing to resolve the issue or walking off a job, the financially harmed party may pursue a bond claim.
Utility Right-of-Way Bond - This surety bond may be required prior to a contractor installing, constructing, repairing, relocating, or removing a utility facility within a public right-of-way area. The bond limit is determined by the Planning and Zoning Department and is likely based on the estimated cost of the permit project. If permit requirements are not followed or if damages are caused to the right-of-way area, the Department may file a claim against the permit holder's bond.
Timber Harvesting Bond - This bond may be required as a prerequisite for the issuance of a timber harvesting permit. The surety bond has a standard $5,000 limit. The permit holder is responsible for upholding local regulations and restoring the timber harvesting site to its original condition upon the execution of harvesting operations. Failure to comply with such requirements can lead to the Planning and Zoning Department filing a claim on the permit holder’s bond.
Unlike the other surety bonds, the Utility Right-of-Way Bond and the Timber Harvesting Bond are attached to a temporary permit, so there are different conditions when it comes to the bond renewal and cancellation process.
If the permit project goes beyond schedule and the renewal of your bond is necessary, all you need to do is fulfill the standard payment due for an additional bond term. In cases where you are wanting to cancel early, the Jet team will send a request to the Planning and Zoning Department regarding your bond. If cancellation is accepted, the bond will be terminated and released of liability within the ordered time period.
Details on how to renew or cancel either of the contractor registration bonds can be found via the links at the bottom of the page.
License/Permit Bond - Other than the surety bonds listed above, the City of Harlem’s local government may require additional License/Permit Bonds. If this is the case, contact Jet at 855-296-2663 and we will help you out right away.
